Welcome to flu and cold season...
Outside of my mommy job, I'm also a part time dance teacher at a local dance studio. Recently our studio has been swept with bronchitis, flu, and pneumonia (couple girls really seriously ill). I've been doing pretty well in not catching most of the bugs that seem to spread through our studio like wildfire but this one caught me! At our dance competition yesterday I started feeling that "fever ache". I grabbed some quick Tylenol from a dance mom and continued throughout the day. By the time I got home around 11:30pm last night I was raging a full blown 102.8 fever. I needed my mommy! Luckily my husband and son had taken a quick weekend trip to my in-laws so they weren't here for me to infect! So I've been doctoring up myself since last night, groaning on the couch alone, and watching Ghost and the Food Network (mommies don't get time off - I had to think about dinner tonight!) I remembered all the wonderful advice my mother (also a nurse) gave me whenever we were sick as kids. As a good sick girl, I set my alarm every 4 hours throughout the night to wake up and take medication, drink some fluids, and go back to bed. Outside of my stumbling over my 120 pound Great Dane the night went rather well.
So, my question is, do mommies get "sick days"? Who do I call out sick to when I need to crawl under the covers, close the curtains and slurp soup in bed all day??? Truth is, I remember what my mom told me when I was pregnant with my son... "Mommies can't get sick!"
